(Cleveland) - Cleveland City Council has voted 15-3 to place 26 additional red light cameras at intersections throughout the city. That would give Cleveland 49 total fixed units.
The deal with Xerox State and Local Solutions Inc. also calls for the city to increase its' mobile red light cameras from 6 to 15.
The controversial cameras nab speeders and other traffic violators. Red light camera supporters in Council say they raise driver awareness, citing nearly 119-thousand citations issued in 2007 compared to just over 64-thousand last year.
