(Painesville) -- Thousands of Lake County homeowners hit by last weekend's heavy rains and high winds may be left high and dry when it comes to federal help.
Ken Gauntner of the Lake County Emergency Managment Agency tells WTAM 1100 that even though the county has applied for federal help for county residents, there's no guarantee that any money will come in.
Gauntner says that the Federal Emergency Management Agency usually will cover flood damage to homes that were destroyed, not in cases where homes simply had flooded basements.
For now, Gauntner says people should contact their insurance companies to see if they'll help.
Most of the flooded basements are in the county's west end, including Wickliffe, Willowick, Eastlake and some parts of Mentor.
