The Browns had a light practice today in Berea as it was the team’s final day of preparation for the New York Giants. Here are a couple notes from the day.

-Trent Richardson missed practice today to be with his girlfriend who had the couple’s third child. Richardson is still expected to play on Sunday against the Giants. \

-The Browns will be without both Alex Smith and Tashaun Gipson as both players have been ruled out with injuries.

-The team listed the duo of Mohamed Massaquoi and Travis Benjamin as doubtful as both are dealing with hamstring injuries. Neither has practiced all week, so it would be a huge surprise if either played.

-With those injuries this will provide an opportunity according to Shurmur, “The other guys will play so what I’m thinking is, you have Jordan Norwood, you have Greg Little, you’ve got Josh Cribbs and you’ve got Josh Gordon, those four guys, if in fact those guys aren’t here.” for guys like Josh Gordan, Josh Cribbs, and Jordan Norwood to contribute this week.

-Injuries are a huge problem for the Giants as they have listed 5 players as out for Sunday’s contest. They will be without wide receivers Hakeem Nicks and Ramses Barden. They also will be without starting safety Kenny Phillips, defensive tackle Rocky Benard, and cornerback Jayron Hosley

-When Coach Shurmur was asked if he had to prepare his offensive linemen any different to prepare for the variety of defensive linemen this Sunday he said “No, I think it’s important that we do a good job.

If we have a play action situation, make sure we’re selling the run. That’s always important. Then in drop back situations where it’s an obvious pass, they’ve got to really read their keys and how they’re lined up and what we anticipate they’re going to do.”

- Safety TJ Ward plans on playing with a cast over his right thumb and he knows it will be tough to play basically without his thumb.

The difficult thing that he is learning to deal with is the fact that he can’t grab anything without his thumb. But he refuses to leave his teammates without him come Sunday.
