Facebook posts make you think its a nationwide program
(Cleveland) -- The auto club AAA is taking steps to clarify that a free New Year's Eve towing service for drunk drivers isn't available in most of Ohio.
The clarification became necessary when details of the "Tipsy Tow" program - where AAA-affiliated trucks give inebriated motorists a free tow and a ride - were widely posted on Facebook and other social media in recent days.
AAA East Central, which covers the Cleveland, Youngstown and Pittsburgh areas, says it doesn't provide the service because its main mission is to provide emergency road service, and New Year's Eve is a big night for that. Also, the auto club says there are other ways to keep drunk drivers off the road.
In the Buckeye State, "Tipsy Tow" is being offered only in eight counties covered by AAA Northwest Ohio, based in Toledo.
