Tribe expects Swisher to play right field
(CLEVELAND) -- The Indians introduced their biggest offseason acquisition on Thursday in a press conference at Progressive Field.
The Tribe held an introductory press conference for right fielder Nick Swisher, who was accompanied by general manager Chris Antonetti and new manager Terry Francona.
Swisher signed a four-year contract worth $56 million with an option for a fifth year.
Swisher, 32, hit .272 last season with 24 HR and 93 RBIs.
The switch-hitter was an All-Star in 2010 with the New York Yankees. Swisher said his decision was influenced by Francona, his ties to Ohio State University where he played in college and the "young core" of players that the Indians have.
Swisher mentioned that his connection to the state of Ohio and Ohio State helped bring him to Cleveland.
It's going to be "super exciting" Swisher said with a laugh during the press conference.
Swisher's deal was made official on Thursday morning after the former Yankee completed a physical.
