Hit police car with his then took off into Cleveland

(Willoughby) – Police are looking for a man who, after being stopped by a Willoughby police officer, rammed his car into a police car then led police on a chase into Cleveland.

Willoughby police say that early Monday morning, they did a traffic stop on Maplegrove Road. The vehicle came to a stop in the parking lot of the Motel 6. The investigating officer made contact with the male driver, who provided him with false identification. As the officer began to question the identity of the driver, the male placed the car into drive and drove further into the Motel 6 parking lot.

The officer followed the vehicle into the parking lot and located it behind the motel. Upon locating the vehicle, the officer exited and began to tell the driver to exit his vehicle. The driver then drove forward, striking the front end of the officer’s police car. The driver then backed up and drove around the officer, ultimately leaving the parking lot.

The original officer, along with an additional Willoughby Police car then pursued the vehicle onto Westbound I-90. The chase continued into Cuyahoga County, and at one point, the driver was westbound in the eastbound lanes of I-90.

The car hit a utility pole at the East 185th Street exit, but by the time police arrived, the driver had run off and has not yet been found.

If you have any information about the identity of the suspect driver involved, please contact the Willoughby Police at (440) 953-4212.
