Plans to develop about 20 acres along Detroit Road and Route 83.

(Avon) - Now that the city of Avon has completed the Nagel Road interchange off I-90, Mayor Jim Smith tells WTAM 1100 it's time to head on to the next project.

That project is a city government campus that will include a new city hall, an outdoor swimming pool, and a wooded walking path.

Smith says preliminary plans have already been in place for the campus, which will be off the southwest corner of Detroit Road and Route 83. Avon's new police and fire departments, plus a post office, are all already at the northern end of the property, facing Detroit Road.

Now, Smith says the next phase of this government campus will include an outdoor swimming pool. According to Smith, the location for the pool is such that numerous children will be able to walk there from nearby housing developments, and not have to cross major roads.

The mayor says construction of the pool could start in 2014. It would be paid for through an existing recreation tax that was established for the construction of All Pro Freight Stadium and the neighboring YMCA.

Over the years, the city of Avon has acquired 25 acres south of Detroit Road and west of Route 83 for the campus. Smith says part of the land includes the only unplowed tract of land in Avon. It's that heavily wooded area the mayor says will eventually be the site of a walking path.
