(Cleveland) - Saturday afternoon, Cleveland Police responded to calls of a child shot at a home on East 116th street.

They found 6 year old Nevaeh Benson wounded in the face with severe head trauma. She was rushed to Rainbow Babies and Childrens Hospital but later died.

The preliminary investigation reveals that the child may have suffered a self inflicted gunshot wound. The cuyahoga county medical examiner’s office will determine the final cause of death.

Police have arrested her father, 23 year old Edmund Benson for child endangering and having weapons while under disability. Those charges are expected to be filed later.
