Victim was locking up for the evening.
(Cleveland) A Cleveland store owner was closing up shop last evening around 9:15 when a man drove up and shot him.
Melvin C. Appling, 36, was getting into his car outside the store at 7809 Woodland Avenue when a sky blue minivan pulled up.
A man got out and opened fire, hitting Appling just above the left hip. Appling's 2011 Toyota Tundra was hit multiple times.
The driver got back in his van and fled.
He's described as a black male, with a light complexion, about five feet four and weighing about 150 pounds. Police say the man was wearing a mask.
Appling is being treated at MetroHealth Medical Center.
