Brandi Tomko to be sentenced next month.

(Akron) - A Summit County woman will be sentenced next month for veterinary fraud.

Brandi Tomko was found guilty Friday of ID fraud, cruelty to animals, drug possession, forgery and practicing without a license. She will be sentenced on March 15.

Tomko pretended to be a vet at C & D Animal Hospital in Akron. Police say Tomko wrote prescriptions and even performed surgery on animals, but she is not listed as a licensed veterinarian or vet tech.

A prosecutor called the 36-year-old Tomko a "con artist" who left many of the pets who came to her clinic for treatment maimed or dying.

The offenses occurred at an Akron clinic in 2011 after the clinic's licensed veterinarian already left as conditions there deteriorated.

Tomko's attorney told the judge that prosecutors couldn't prove that she hurt any animals brought to the clinic.

According to police, Tomko couldn't let the doors close because she needed the cash for drugs.
