400 people losing jobs with the closing of Core Systems LLC.
(Painesville) - Around 300 people are being laid off in Painesville.
Core Systems LLC began notifying workers Friday morning of the decision to shut down operations. Along with the local employees, another 100 people are being let go at the company’s second location in Morrow County.
Core Systems’ operations manager Ron Fenstermaker tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 it was a direct result of Whirlpool, one of their primary customers, pulling out with no notice after 30-plus years a few weeks ago. He says Core Systems wasn't even given a chance to restructure the deal.
When we asked if the company might resume operations in the future, Fenstermaker said no. He calls it “a hard pill to swallow”.
The building and equipment will be turned over to the bank for likely liquidation, according to Fenstermaker.
According to the company’s website, Core Systems, LLC has earned a reputation for excellence in the design and manufacture of highly engineered, injection molded plastic products. They specialized in molded products that require sophisticated tool designs, have tight tolerances, and mandate efficient manufacturing practices.
