On Tuesday, of the Alliance Police Special Investigations Unit executed a search warrant at 2115 S. Seneca Ave. This search warrant was the result of a month-long investigation into illegal cultivation of marijuana.

Detectives, assisted by members of the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Patrol Division, entered the residence without incident at around 8:00PM. Officers located what is believed to be the largest indoor marijuana growing operation in APD history.

Located in four rooms of the home were 260 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, up to about 6 feet in height. Also found was an elaborate lighting and ventilation system, fertilizing system and growing aids.

Also among the items found was over $7,000 in cash believed to be proceeds from the grow operation, scales, packaging and shipping materials, records, computers and documents.

The resident, 41-year-old Robert Baumgartner, was found leaving the home as officers arrived, and was taken into custody without incident. Baumgartner has been charged with Illegal Cultivation of Marijuana, Trafficking in Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Criminal Tools and
Possession of drug paraphernalia.

Baumgartner was booked at APD and taken to Stark County Jail on $100,000 bond

On the department’s Facebook page, they posted:

THE WHOLE POLICE DEPARTMENT smells like marijuana from the marijuana raid the other night. Can someone donate about 1,000 of these little tree air fresheners please? It's so overwhelming we had to close the jail for a day and several employees felt sick from it. Maybe 2,000.....
