More than 40 men and 40 roosters taken into custody
(Cleveland) - Cleveland Police report receiving a 911 call about possible dog fighting in a vacant house at 2186 W. 30th Street, Saturday, March 2, about 4:20 p.m.
The preliminary investigation reveals that once Second District Officers arrived on scene, they could hear noises from the basement. In the basement, officers say they observed 40 males engaged in cockfighting.
The males were detained and information is being obtained. The Border Patrol and Immigration & Customs Enforcement was notified.
Police also notified Cleveland Kennels, which sent a crew to remove forty three live roosters and two dead rosters from the home.
The home was found to be occupied, and the homeowner was placed under arrest for Felony Cruelty to Animals and Gambling charges.
Charges against people found to be participating in the event may follow, as well.
