Firefighter brings four people out safely.

(Cleveland) - Firefighters credit working smoke detectors for saving the lives of a mother and her three young children.

At 7:39 this morning, a blaze erupted in a unit of an apartment building on Rocky River Drive. Fire department spokesman Larry Gray says there were reports of smoke and fire pouring out of a second story unit.

Gray tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 that a young mother and her three children, ages two, five and a four month old were inside, but were too afraid to try to escape. He says a firefighter was able to get inside and lead all 4 to safety.

Gray says there were no injuries. So far there is no cause and no damage estimate as the investigation.

The mom told Channel 3 News there was no way she could have gotten out of the building without being rescued. She said she was thankful to be alive.
