(Bay Village) - A Westlake man is hospitalized after a chase that saw his SUV go airborne.

Westlake Police say 38-year-old Corey Schoenberger was observed driving in and out of parking lots in the Crocker Road area at 12:07 AM on Thursday. After committing a number of moving violations, he was signaled to stop by a Westlake PD officer

Instead, he instead fled westbound on Clemens Road and then northbound on Bradley Road into Bay Village, becoming airborne when crossing the railroad tracks.

At the intersection with Lake Road, Schoenberger failed to negotiate a left turn and hit a fence and tree.

Schoenberger was transported to St. John Medical Center by Bay Village FD, where he remains under observation. His injuries are not considered life-threatening and he is not under arrest yet.

A temporary license plate stolen Wednesday from an Elyria woman’s 1994 Ford SUV was found on the 1994 Ford SUV that Schoenberger was driving. Items in that vehicle have tentatively been linked to a theft from auto reported at a hotel in the area where Schoenberger was first spotted.

A search warrant is being sought to recover more suspected stolen property from Schoenberger’s vehicle.

Suggested charges that will be considered by the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor for presentation to a grand jury will include traffic violations, RSP, and Felony Fleeing.
